Affiliate Millions Newsletter 6/15/2007

Posted in Newsletter Archives at 9:10 pm by Administrator

Hi Everybody,

Well, I’m taking the whole family up to the ranch on Monday to spend the summer.  The kids already love it, but this will be Robyn’s first time actually staying there.  Hopefully, she will fall in love with it too, and I can finally start leading the life of a country gentleman.

“Land spreadin’ out so far and wide… keep Manhattan just give me that countryside!”

Before I get started with the advice this week, it has come to my attention that some of your newsletter requests did not make it onto the newsletter list until this week, including some from as long ago as April.  I want to apologize to those subscribers who have missed out, and offer them the chance to read through some of the archived newsletters, should they wish to do so.  I will be trying to publish these newsletter archives to the Discussion Board, but until then, you may simply reply to this email with “Request for archives” in the subject or body of the email, and I will make sure you get copies of any newsletters you may have missed.

Tips for Beginners

This issue’s big tip is to check out the Affiliate Millions Discussion Board, which is now fully functional.  We now have a number of posts and comments on a variety of subjects, and there is a lot to be learned for a beginner – or an expert – on the board.  Also, you may feel free to post your own questions or comments as well.  As always, you may also query me directly at AffiliateSupport@AffiliateMillions.com.

Affiliate Network & Program tips

Using Landing Pages

Earlier this month, I promised some more detailed advice on how to use landing pages for affiliate programs like eBay’s, whose new payout structure includes a prohibition on direct search marketing (running ads for eBay on search engines that link directly to eBay).  Under this prohibition, you are still allowed to advertise a site of your own on Search Engines that in turn will link to eBay.

The success of this new strategy will depend on more than just your ad text and keyword selection – your primary concerns in direct search marketing.  Now you will need to add the quality of your landing page to your list of concerns.  Google will be looking at two things when they review your ad’s landing page; relevance and content.

Relevance is simple, if you are running an ad against keywords like baby carriage, car seat, baby stroller, etc., then you will want to make sure that these items are featured prominently on the landing page.  Luckily, eBay has an easy to use Editor Kit that will help you create dynamically relevant eBay item lists for your own page to display.  This is almost as good as sending them to a similar page on eBay, as you will get up to the second listings, and they will be able to shop and buy from your page as easily as from eBay.

Content can be more difficult, and Google can be funny about what they do and don’t approve.  Sometimes, just offering a relevant list of items for sale like suggested above is enough.  Other times, Google might decide that the page is only an advertisement (without other content) and shut off your ad.  The key is to be certain you offer some content besides just what is for sale. Content can be relevant tips, advice, discussion or news.  The fresher the better, as this will improve your Google page rank, and landing page rank will help your ad in the Google AdWords algorithm.  One simple trick, if you are stumped on how to provide fresh content yourself, is to get relevant news stories delivered to your page by a free news content provider like InterestAlert.com.  This news is easy to incorporate into your page, can be customized to the content of your page, and will satisfy Google’s content requirements.

I have a VERY simple example of these two tools – the Editor Kit and InterestAlert.com – at www.Find-Great-Deals-Here.com/eBay.

I leave it to you to make the necessary improvements to the look and feel of your page to make it as successful as possible, or you may enlist the help of the experts at Dotster for Fast and Affordable Custom Web Design.  They can also assist you in finding and buying a domain name, as well as hosting your new site.

Search Engine Marketing Tips

Search and Content Networks

Up until this week, Google AdWords has always been my first recommendation for Search and Content Networks.  They did pioneer pay-for-performance advertising, after all.  But after several weeks of Yahoo’s new pay-for-performance system being in place, I have moved them to the top of my list of recommendations.  It is not so much that I can say they are simply better than Google – they each still each have their own advantages that make that a difficult, case by case call – but I believe they are certainly as good as Google, and in many areas the competition is not yet quite as fierce (or savvy) as on Google AdWords.

I encourage all of you who have not given Yahoo a try already to take advantage of the current offer;

Yahoo/Overture Sponsored Search – Yahoo! represents one of the largest and oldest search engines on the web. They are currently running a promotion offering $25 worth of free advertising to new customers.  That could translate to as many as 250 free clicks through to the affiliate programs you choose to advertise.  Click on the link below to take advantage of this great offer.

Yahoo! Sponsored Search connects businesses and customers online. Sign up and get a $25 credit.

That’s all for this week.

Good Luck, Affiliate Millionaires in training!

Hi Everybody,

The bad news is; I don’t have much prepared for this month’s newsletter.

The good news is; the reason I haven’t gotten the newsletter together in time is I have been killing myself trying to get this discussion board working…  And at long last it works!!!

I have pre-populated some discussion threads based on your emails, and please feel free to register and post your own comments and questions.  I have quite a few other tasks to catch up on now, so I may not respond to your posts for a couple days, but I will certainly get to them as soon as I can.  I’ll try and put out a meatier mid-month newsletter in a couple of weeks.

But wait!  I almost forgot… you’ll want the address of the discussion board, I’ll bet.  There is a text link at the bottom of the main page of Affiliate Millions – still waiting on the button – but you can reach it directly at www.AffiliateMillions.com/discussion-board/index.php.

Let me know what you think of the site, and if it is intuitive enough to use.

Good Luck, Affiliate Millionaires in training!

Hi Tony,

Okay, we are having some technical difficulties getting the discussion board working, but I swear it will be up and running by this time next week.

I can’t get started without first mentioning some big news this week in the Affiliate Program world.  I received notice this week that eBay is changing its payout structure.  Most of the changes are positive, but one change is troubling.  As of June 1st, eBay.com will no longer allow search marketers to link directly to the eBay.com site.  Up until now, eBay has been one of the most search marketing friendly programs on the web, and one of the largest, too.

Hopefully, this experiment will show eBay just how effective their search marketing affiliates really have been, as the cost of writing and running ads on an almost infinite number of keywords relative to their product line, and the hassle of constantly adding new ones, becomes better known.  If eBay declares this experiment a success, however, other internet giants – and smaller companies as well – could follow suit.

Whatever the future holds, however, you can rest assured that Affiliate Millions will do its best to help you adapt to the changing environment.  In next month’s newsletter, I will try to put together some advice on creating simple landing pages to link to eBay with (a practice still allowed under the new rules).

New Affiliate Networks & Programs

This week’s focus is on Affiliate Networks whose application processes are most friendly to Search Marketers (that is, those of us directly marketing other sites, without a site of our own).  These networks do not require a website URL to join, and quickly review and approve submitted applications.

ClickXchange – With hundreds of quality affiliate program offers, high conversion rates, and a sign up process that is both quick and easy, ClickXchange is a great place to get started.

AzoogleAds.com – Another vast network of affiliate programs with competitive payouts and high conversion rates, also with a quick and easy sign up process.

Search Engine Marketing Tips

Search and Content Networks

Right now, I myself am not working with any search engines but Google and Yahoo!  For those of you with more experience, who understand the challenges that these third tier search engines present, but believe you can improve your bottom line with an increase in volume, you can see a complete list of recommended search engines at www.AffiliateMillions.com, but otherwise you should start with these two.

Google AdWords – The pioneer in pay-for-performance search marketing. Google’s AdWords program is one of the top pay-for-performance search engines.

Website Design & Marketing Tips

The bulk of my success with affiliate programs has been with search marketing, and I believe it is the easiest and quickest path to profitability, but considering this week’s announcement from eBay, it may be that landing pages are the future of search marketing.  With this in mind…

Website Promotion

One thing to keep in mind when you are promoting a website of your own is that there are many different options, some of which are not available when using search marketing just to promote affiliate programs.  Search engine optimization (SEO) is a good example.  With a site of your own, you should focus some of your efforts toward getting your site to appear in the natural search engine results.  If you can successfully climb near to the top of a few key searches, you will begin getting the best kind of traffic…  FREE!  Add to that the relevancy of the traffic you get from appearing at or near the top of a few relevant search phrases, and you will likely have established a significant revenue stream.

A great book about promoting your own website that I read in preparation for launching the Affiliate Millions website is Insider Seo & Ppc: Get Your Website to the Top of the Search Engines, available now on Amazon.

Website Templates

As I have mentioned before, one of the services we are providing that I am most proud of is our FREE website templates.  These templates are professionally designed, and include simple instructions for incorporating your own affiliate advertisements into the html code.  Simply download the files from my site and unzip them to your root directory on your web server.  Don’t have a web server?  Don’t worry, just skip down a few paragraphs and you’ll find affordable and reliable web hosting services you can use to publish your new website.

Presently, as Affiliate Millions is only just getting started, we have only one template available.  It is a template for an online college degree selection site, and it is available at www.AffiliateMillions.com/web-design.html.  You can view a working example of the website at www.Great-Colleges.com.

I strongly suggest Affiliate Fuel for your source of education offers to list on this site, as they have a large number of high paying, high converting college degree offers.

Good Luck, Affiliate Millionaires in training!

Hi Everybody,

I’m going to be quick this week, because I have a lot of tidying up to do this weekend.  I am flying my parents to Tampa for their anniversary, and also to see Robyn, the kids and I.  Next Friday I am taking them up to the Florida panhandle to visit my horse farm.  If all goes well, they’ll like it enough to pack up and move down with me.

You see, I am originally from Massachusetts, but when the big money started rolling in, I had to flee to tax friendly Florida, leaving friends and family behind.  It didn’t sit very well with me, though, so I bought 60 acres of land and offered a free acre to any of my – or Robyn’s – family members who wanted to come along with us.  My brother has moved down to the ranch already (he’s running the place for me), and my sister, grandmother and parents-in-law have also been down to see the place, but getting my mother and father on board with the plan should really get the ball rolling.

Between us, Robyn and I have 11 brothers and sisters (most with families of their own), 4 parents and 5 grandparents we’d like to move onto the farm with us, so it should be quite the little neighborhood when we are done.

New on Affiliate Millions

Discussion Board

I have heard from quite of few of you who have read my book, Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond, and visited my website.  Some of you have had follow-up questions, and others have run into some difficulties with the fast changing environment – encountering some instances where small parts of the advice offered in the book need updating.  To address these concerns, I have sped up the process of bringing the Affiliate Millions Discussion Board online, and I expect it to go live sometime early next week.  This should provide not only a forum for me to answer questions and post updates, but also a resource for others who may have the same, or similar, questions.

Many thanks, by the way, to those of you who were kind enough to consent to using our email conversations to pre-populate some discussion threads.

Affiliate Networks

Many of you have found the application process at some affiliate networks to be counter-intuitive, and not “Search Marketer” friendly.  This week I am recommending two networks, one new, and one just added 2 weeks ago, to my list of recommended networks.  Both of these networks, in addition to offering a wide variety of competitive affiliate programs, offer simple and intuitive applications that are easy to fill out, whether you are a search marketer or website owner.

They are ClickXchange and AzoogleAds.com.

Next week, I will return to publishing the full version of the newsletter.

Good Luck, future Affiliate Millionaires!

Hi Everybody,  Well, I didn’t make it up to the ranch last weekend after all.  I just couldn’t find the time. My own schedule was wide open, of course, but the kids had too many ball games, dance pictures, birthday parties and so on, and so on, and so on….  Imagine that!  My kids have busier calendars than I do.  It wasn’t so long ago that it was the other way around, and my work schedule would force me to miss games, recitals, and sometimes even cancel family outings so I could respond to some emergency or other at work.  I’m sure you know exactly what I am talking about.  I think the best part of succeeding as a search marketer of affiliate programs hasn’t been the millions I’ve earned – although the $$ is a close second – but the freedom I’ve won for myself and my family.  I’ll never have to miss another soccer game or school play so that I can solve somebody else’s problems. But I’m not the first person to succeed online, and I’m sure I won’t be the last, either.  With a little hard work – and some good advice – you can win this same freedom for yourself and your family.Tips for BeginnersSpeaking of Good AdviceOf course, the first suggestion I have for those of you who are just getting started is to read my book, Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond.  In Affiliate Millions, I explain just exactly how you can join affiliate networks and programs, and then use search marketing to immediately promote these programs and start earning commissions – all without the hassle and expense of creating and maintaining a website of your own.  Once you get started, I’ll show you some simple techniques for monitoring the performance of your campaigns based on profitability.  Some folks spend way too much time and money on fancy monitoring techniques and software, and focus far too much on abstracts like CTR (Click-thru-Rate), forgetting that the bottom line is, after all, the bottom line.  Instead, I’ll focus most of your time and energy on the most important aspect of search marketing – writing good ads!Quick Start GuideI know I recommend this almost every week in my Tips for Beginners section, but my Quick Start Guide is a great tool to walk you through the process of starting your own Search Marketing business.New Affiliate Networks & ProgramsOne of my featured network’s last week was AzoogleAds.com.This week, I have received a list of AzoogleAds.com’s top 5 performing campaigns and I thought I’d pass the list along to you, so you’d know which programs their affiliates are having the most success with, and so you can take a stab at promoting one or more of these successful campaigns yourself.  1.      Ad ID 3350: Blinko Wizard - Today’s Hottest Ringtones!

2.      Ad ID 4000: True.com – Search Only *note: offer is exclusively promoted by search marketers, but you can check out the landing page at True.com

3.      Ad ID 1885: DadaMobile - 10 Bonus Tones

4.      Ad ID 4539: Blockbuster Total Access ($9.99/mo)      *note: they also have a Free Trial Offer to promote

5.      Ad ID 3824: Dictionary - Toolbar (MIVA)Just sign up now with AzoogleAds.com, and use the Ad IDs above to search for the affiliate programs and get the tracking code you’ll need to begin running ads for them.  As always, if you run into problems joining this – or any other – affiliate network, drop me an email at AffiliateSupport@AffiliateMillions.com  and I’ll work with the network on your behalf to get you accepted.Search Engine Marketing TipsSearch and Content NetworksYou can always see a complete list of recommended search engines at www.AffiliateMillions.com/Search-Engine-Marketing-Networks, but unless you are already maximizing your traffic volume from these two giants below, I wouldn’t rush off to try any of the others.  The quality of traffic is not as high on the second and third tier networks, and I use them primarily when I need to reach the next performance tier of a campaign in a month during which I am falling just short of reaching that next tier.  I often lose money per click on these other search engines, but it can be worth it if I raise the EPC (Earnings per Click) of all my traffic by reaching a higher commission level.  Other than that, there aren’t too many reasons for using any search engines but these two.Google AdWords – The pioneer in pay-for-performance search marketing. Google’s AdWords program is one of the top pay-for-performance search engines.Yahoo/Overture Sponsored Search – Yahoo! represents one of the largest and oldest search engines on the web. Sponsored Search connects businesses and customers online. Sign up and get a $25 credit. Trimming the FatKeep in mind as you write your ads and choose your keywords, that your goal is not necessarily to get the most clicks possible.  You can write an ad touting a free product or service that is available on your client’s website – and it will get lots more clicks than an ad that doesn’t mention the freebie – but unless your commission is tied to that freebie, you may be paying for a lot traffic that earns you little or nothing back.  It’s sometimes better to write an ad that is not as broadly appealing, but delivers better quality traffic.  Website Design & Marketing TipsWeb Hosting, Design & More

Whether you are interested in finding and securing domain names, designing a website or professionally hosting your site on a secure and reliable web server, GoDaddy.com is one of the most trusted names in the business, and affordable to boot.  They have hosting plans starting at just $3.99 per month, and you can find and buy domain names for as little as just $1.99.Website TemplatesI can’t seem to help myself when it comes to promoting my FREE website templates.  These templates are professionally designed, and include simple instructions for incorporating your own affiliate advertisements into the html code.  Simply download the files from my site and unzip them to your root directory on your web server.  If you need any assistance setting up these templates, just email me at AffiliateSupport@AffiliateMillions.com and I will be happy to get you up and running.Presently, as Affiliate Millions is only just getting started, we have only one template available.  It is a template for an online college degree selection site, and it is available at www.AffiliateMillions.com/web-design.html.  You can view a working example of the website at www.Great-Colleges.com.I strongly suggest Affiliate Fuel for your source of education offers to list on this site, as they have a large number of high paying, high converting college degree offers.  Again, if you have any trouble during the application process, email at AffiliateSupport@AffiliateMillions.com and I will work with Affiliate Fuel on your behalf to get you approved.Good Luck, future Affiliate Millionaires!Anthony Borelli

Special EditionRe: Affiliate Network Application Issues

Hi Everybody,  It has recently come to my attention that a number of my subscribers have encountered difficulties while trying to sign up with some affiliate networks, Affiliate Fuel in particular.  Two issues are most common.

1.      Site Name and URL issues – Direct search marketing of affiliate programs does not require a site of your own, but many affiliate network applications still ask for this information, and some will not allow the application to even be submitted without it.

2.      Average Number of Unique Visitors to Site – Many applications ask for the number of visitors to your site per day or month, and although as search marketers we may be capable of showing these ads to thousands of people each day, we still don’t have visitors to a site of our own generating this statistic.

The solutions for this are as follows;

1.      Fill in the website name and website URL fields with a search engine name and URL (such as www.google.com) and use the website description field to state your intention to use search marketing on that site – and other search sites – to generate traffic.

2.      If you are asked for a unique number of visitors to your site per day or per month, you should instead use the average number of impressions your ads receive on a given day or month.  This is the nearest correlating statistic for search marketers, and most affiliate networks will accept it, but explain  in the website description field that is it the average number of impressions you used to complete this field.

3.      If you are just getting started, do not use actual impressions, as you may have few or none, but estimate your future impressions.  A minimum of 350 per day, or 10,000 per month will get you accepted into most networks, and either of those numbers should be very easy to actually deliver.

With Affiliate Fuel in particular, I can offer some additional help.  My contact there has advised me that if my subscribers add “referred by tonybbb” (my account ID) to the description field, the application will go to him before it is approved or denied, and he can work with me to assist in getting it approved if there are any issues. Also, if you ever run into any difficulty, feel free to ask me for assistance or advice.  You can email me at AffiliateSupport@AffiliateMillions.com and I will research your problem and respond as soon as I can.  I’m not sure yet what turnaround time to tell you to expect, as I have only just begun to publish this address, and I am uncertain as to the volume of requests I may receive.Good luck future Affiliate Millionaires!

Affiliate Millions Newsletter 4/27/2007

Posted in Newsletter Archives at 8:45 pm by Administrator

Hi Everybody,

Any big plans for the weekend?

I’m hoping to drive up to my new ranch with my boys and pitch in with the hay cutting, if the weather holds.  You might not believe it, but working just an hour or two a day for a few years can get pretty tiresome, no matter how lucrative it is.  I’m counting on this new horse farm I’ve bought to provide me with some sorely needed chores.  Maybe that sounds a little crazy to you right now, but when you hit it big, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Speaking of hitting it big, let’s get on with the advice.

Tips for Beginners

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

If you are just getting started, don’t expect instant success.  It takes time and patience to learn the ropes and to develop the skills – the most important of which is ad writing – which you will need to set yourself apart from the competition.  Focus on making small campaigns profitable, not on making small campaigns into bigger campaigns.  When you start writing better ads than your competition, your campaigns will grow almost on their own.

If you have read my book, Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond, then you know that my originally modest goals for the business did not prevent me from making more money than I ever dared to dream I would.  In fact, my early attention to profitable campaigns, no matter how small, and my focus on improving the ad text for these campaigns (as opposed to complicated bidding strategies and burdensomely granular performance monitoring techniques) are what ultimately led me to the highest levels of success.

Quick Start Guide

Go slow, but get started quickly!

Although I recommend a slow and cautious approach to building up your first campaigns, that doesn’t mean you should relax on the couch instead of getting the ball rolling.  My Quick Start Guide will take you step by step through the initial startup process of starting your own Search Marketing business.

New Affiliate Networks & Programs

This week’s focus is on two affiliate networks newly added to the Affiliate Millions site; LeaderMarkets.com and AzoogleAds.com.

LeaderMarkets.com – With over 500 quality affiliate program offers, an intuitive interface and high conversion rates, LeaderMarkets.com is a veritable cornucopia of potential money making offers for you to take advantage of.  And, unlike some other affiliate networks, their sign up process is both quick and easy.

AzoogleAds.com – Another vast network of affiliate programs with competitive payouts and high conversion rates, also with a quick and easy sign up process.

As you are signing up for these networks, remember, if you are planning on running their ads on search engines (like I do) instead of on a website of your own, then when they ask you for your website address, simply type in the address of one of the search engines you will use (i.e. www.google.com) and explain in the website description that although you are obviously not the owner, you intend to promote these affiliate programs on this and other search and content networks.  If you do have a website of your own, however, feel free to use its address in the application process.

Search Engine Marketing Tips

Ad-Tuning

No single technique has contributed more to my success then my habit of carefully writing ads and then testing them against similar ads to try and identify possible improvements.  Unless you firmly establish an ad at the very top of the search results for your keywords, with the lowest possible CPC (under three cents on Google, for instance), you should continuously try to improve your ads by creating new, almost identical ads to run alongside the current best performing ad.  Make small changes to a word or two, or replace a whole line in the title or description, then run that ad alongside the other to see if it performs better or worse than the original.  I have a number of helpful suggestions for this process in my book, but I have one important addition you cannot find in the book, as the feature is new.

Google AdWords now allows you to pause an ad, rather than delete it, when you wish an ad to stop showing within an ad group.  This feature is important because ad history is important to the Google algorithm, and I have occasionally deleted an ad I thought I had improved upon, only to find that I had either incorrectly interpreted the results, or that the ad history itself was still critical to the success of the ad group.  If you pause an ad, and then experience a sharp drop in performance, you can correct the problem by simply resuming the ad.  If, however, you delete ads when you believe you are done with them, you will not be able to undo this, and although you can recreate an ad that is identical to the old one, you cannot recreate the ad history.

Search and Content Networks

This newsletter is still so new, I am hesitant to begin suggesting third tier search engines to an audience I believe is still comprised largely of beginners, so I am continuing to feature just the two largest and most reliable sponsored search programs in the world.  For those of you with more experience, who understand the challenges that these third tier search engines present, but believe you can improve your bottom line with an increase in volume, you can see a complete list of recommended search engines at www.AffiliateMillions.com.

Google AdWords – The pioneer in pay-for-performance search marketing. Google’s AdWords program is one of the top pay-for-performance search engines.

Website Design & Marketing Tips

The bulk of my success with affiliate programs has been with search marketing, and I believe it is the easiest and quickest path to profitability.  But for those of you with the skills and inclination, I want to offer what help and advice I can.  To that end, I do maintain some pages on my site to support website based affiliate program marketing, and I try to include some of this information in my newsletter.

Affiliate Millions Newsletter 4/20/2007

Posted in Newsletter Archives at 8:31 pm by Administrator

Hi Anthony, and welcome to the very first edition of the Affiliate Millions Newsletter.

Thank God it’s Friday, right!  Well, since striking it rich in Affiliate Marketing, I can thank God that everyday is Friday for me now.  This Friday is even better than most, though, because it’s also payday.  Wondering what sort of income Search Marketing and Affiliate Advertising can generate for you?  I’ll cash checks for over $116,000 this month, and this is the worst month I’ve had so far this year!

So how can you start making your own Affiliate Millions?  Hopefully, this weekly newsletter will provide some of the critical information you’ll need to start you on your way to financial freedom.  I’ll be organizing the newsletter into four parts; Tips for Beginners, New Affiliate Networks & Programs, Search Engine Marketing Tips, and Website Design & Marketing Tips.

Tips for Beginners

Recommended Reading

If you are just getting started, the first thing I have to recommend, naturally, is that you read my new book, Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond available now on Amazon.  Pay particular attention to Chapter 10: Dealing with Mistakes.  It can be difficult, at first, to make your campaigns profitable, and an expensive mistake is often all it takes to end someone’s search marketing career before it even begins.  I myself thought of quitting early on when a careless budgeting error cost me thousands of dollars in just a few short hours.  Had I thrown in the towel, I would never gone on to eventually succeed and earn literally millions of dollars.  I still shudder when I think of how close I came to quitting.  In Chapter 10, you read about some common, but sometimes costly, mistakes that could end your career before it has a chance to begin.

Quick Start Guide

Obviously, since you have signed up for the Affiliate Millions Newsletter, you have visited the Affiliate Millions Website, but did you notice the Quick Start Guide I have developed to help you get started?  Although I cannot provide the same level of instructional detail on the website as I do in the book, my Quick Start Guide is an excellent resource for quickly and simply taking you step by step through the process of starting your own Search Marketing business.

New Affiliate Networks & Programs

This week’s focus is on Commission Junction, one of the largest and most profitable affiliate networks on the web.  It can be difficult, however, to navigate their sign-up process, and once you have joined, it can be difficult to choose from the thousands of affiliate programs available. Signing Up

To sign up, you may click on this link for Commission Junction, which will take you to their Publishers page.  To navigate from there to the actual application, you will need to scroll down and click on their link “Learn more about the CJ Marketplace”.  This will take you to the About Us > CJ Marketplace page.  Scroll down to the last paragraph on this page, the Publishers section, and click on the “Click Here” text in that paragraph.  Now you are finally at the application itself, which is not so difficult once you get there.   Remember, if you are planning on running these ads on search engines (like I do) instead of on a website of your own, then when they ask you for your website address, simply type in the address of one of the search engines you will use (i.e. www.google.com) and explain in the website description that, although you are obviously not Larry Page (Co-Founder of Google), you intend to promote these affiliate programs on this and other search and content networks.

Recommended Commission Junction Affiliate Programs Once you are signed up, selecting the right affiliate programs to promote can be a daunting task, but don’t worry, I can help.  Since this week I expect most of my subscribers are probably new to affiliate advertising and search marketing, I have selected a couple of affiliate programs to recommend that I found relatively easy to make profitable early in my own career.  They are Napster and Monster.

Napster – Currently offering $5 for each person you drive to their site that signs up for their free – that’s right, FREE – 7 day trial.  Anytime you see a program willing to pay you a commission based on selling anything for free, you should give the program a try.  This deal is even better than most, though, because if the user signs up for the service after the 7 day free trial is over, you earn another $5.  They have programs for the US, UK and Canada.  Be careful selecting keywords, however.  Like most programs, Napster does not allow affiliates to bid on their trademark names (like NAPSTER) and you should view the complete list of protected keywords before launching your campaign.  You can check out this offer before promoting it if you like: Click here to get a 7-day FREE trial of Napster

Monster – This jobs list site was one of my early favorites because it is always easier to market a strong brand, and unlike other affiliate programs, Monster does allow some bidding on their trademarks (view their keyword policy first for details). You earn $1 for every resume posted, and 50 cents for each person who joins My Monster, plus, if you drive employers to the site as well, you receive a percentage commission from Monster.  I have received commissions for a single referral that have exceeded $100. You can check out this offer before promoting it if you like: Post Your FREE Resume Today to attract top employers!

Always read the Terms & Conditions of each program carefully.  There is nothing worse than investing time and money in a program, and then not receiving commissions because you inadvertently broke the rules. Search Engine Marketing Tips

Continuing to assume that this week I have a high concentration of newcomers, I am focusing strictly on top tier, pay-for-performance based search engines this week.  Until you gain some experience, you will want to steer clear of the second-tier search engines and pay-for-placement models. Search and Content Networks

Google Adwords – The pioneer in pay-for-performance search marketing. Google’s AdWords program is one of the top pay-for-performance search engines. Yahoo/Overture Sponsored Search – A newcomer to pay-for-performance, but Yahoo! represents one of the largest search engines on the web. With Yahoo! Sponsored Search you target customers actively searching for what you sell. Yahoo! Sponsored Search connects businesses and customers online. Sign up and get a $25 credit.

As always, you can see a complete list of recommended search engines at www.AffiliateMillions.com. Website Design & Marketing Tips

For those of you brave souls who want to manage your own websites, I have some tools and tips as well. Website Templates

One of the services we are providing that I am most proud of is my FREE website templates.  These templates are professionally designed, and include simple instructions for incorporating your own affiliate advertisements into the code.  Simply download the files from my site and unzip them to your root directory on your web server.  Don’t have a web server, don’t worry, just skip down a few paragraphs and you’ll find affordable and reliable web hosting services you can publish your new website too.

Web Hosting, Design & More

Assuming again that this week many of you are just getting started, I am including this short list of full service web hosting companies, each of which can affordably assist you in finding and securing domain names, designing a website (or just publishing one of my templates), and professionally hosting a site on a secure and reliable web server.

Dotster - Low cost domain registration, plus hosting and building solutions. Dotster does it all!

GoDaddy – GoDaddy.com is the world’s largest domain registrar, and they are a full service provider of web design and hosting services.

Good Luck, Affiliate Millionaires in training!

I just read your book and signed up with the eBay US affiliate program & received a welcoming email with following tip:

As of June 1, 2007, eBay no longer allows paid search publishers to link directly to the ebay.com, eBay Express or eBay Store domains from Google.com, Yahoo.com, MSN.com, nor from any of their content networks, such as Google AdSense, Yahoo! Publisher Network and MSN ContentAds. If you are interested in becoming one of eBay’s paid search publishers, it is important to remember that you will need to link to non-eBay domains as an intermediary step in your publisher campaign.

How is this going affect getting started as a search marketing while following the steps outlined in your book?

7-day EPC in CJ

Posted in Questions and Comments at 5:37 pm by MCL Affiliates

In CJ’s Get Links pages, I have seen a number of instances under the Keyword Link option where there is an “N/A” under the 7 day EPC.  Is this necessarily a red flag?  In other words, does it mean nobody has had any success at all with that offer, or does it mean nobody is really offering it at all and they don’t have any stats?

destination links

Posted in Questions and Comments at 3:11 pm by Kjazz9

Hello.  I recently purchased your book and I was really surprised at how detailed it is.  It’s great.  All but one detail.  I am confused about the destination links.  I read a couple of comments from others in your discussion board, but it’s not helping.  I simply do not understand how to set up “fast-redirects”  I am puzzled by this.  So, for example, if I want to write an add for an item on ebay.  I can’t send people, from my add, directly to that product??? The add has to take them somewhere else before going to that product.  Is that correct?  So where do I send them?  I appologize if this questions seems elementary, but this is my initial hurdle.

Stats

Posted in Questions and Comments at 4:34 pm by jsangiuliano

Hi Tony,

I hope you are doing well. I’ve just started my first campaign and I’m getting a couple of clicks. Now, the question is: statistically speaking, how many clicks would be necessary to determine whether an adgroup is performing well? I was revising my old stats books about minimum number of samples necessary for reliable trend lines and forecasting, but I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb to determine that.

Thanks!

read your book

Anthony I read your book and I thought it was very interesting. i have not taken advantage of anything that was said yet but I plan to. Tell me what do you think of Mark Warren Ultimatewealth. I got involved with that before I read your book. I have not made any money yet and I am really beginning to wonder if anyone makes money with it. There are so many websites promoting it  and they all look alike, including mine.

Best practices for budgets, which products ?

Posted in Questions and Comments at 2:05 am by shazlig

Hi Tony,

First of all I would like to say thank you for writing and publishing the book. I picked it up about a month ago and got really excited on this business. After thinking long and hard about it, I finally got started 2 weeks ago by getting into some commission programs and going to adwords. Using the default 1.66 daily budget, I didn’t get any clicks during the first 2 days but now I’ve got about 60 clicks but no commission. I’ve looked at your book again and saw your daily budget is way, way more then this. So I’d like to know do you have any recommended daily budgets for beginners? Also what sort of products can generate faster commisions cos I think the ones I’m marketing could be too expensive (eg. web hosting services)>
My 1st goal is to at least get a sale and we’ll see from there. :)
Regards,

Shazli

Posted in Questions and Comments at 3:36 am by bob

It is unclear to me,after scanning your book, whether you can lose more money than you budget per month.Does Amazon ,for example, stop running your ad after your budget is exceeded? Can your credit card or checking account be billed more than what one originally areed to?
