Amazon products
Hi Tony,
I was curious about the Amazon Associates program. I know you’ve often promoted their affiliate program, and I am enrolled in it as well. I was wanting to know though, when you direct your ads to products on their website, is there any specific page you link to? For example, if I was advertising mountain bikes would I link to a search results page on mountain bikes, or advertise a specific brand of bike and maybe link to the detail page for that particular model? I’m just wondering how successful you can be if linking directly to Amazon’s page as opposed to creating your own landing page for a product.
Thanks,
CR

CR,
If you are broadly marketing mountain bikes, then you might reach some level of success just choosing a page on Amazon about mountain bikes, but you would probably be more successful with a GOOD - and that is key - page about mountain bikes, with comparisons based on price, performance, and multiple sources to buy from. I’m no good at that, but if you can do it, it’s definitely better to have your own page, in that instance.
If you are marketing a specific bike, you are basically fishing for folks who’ve made up their mind on what they want, and are just looking for a place to get it. In this instance, your ad should send them straight to Amazon - or whatever other affiliate program might sell the product. You want the shortest trip possible to the point of sale in that instance. Your ad text will have to be killer, though, to compete. This is what I am good at, and believe me, it can more than make up for not being good at web design.
Good luck,
Tony
