Hope someone can help. Maybe this is typical but I’m a newbie and something doesn’t seem right. Posted my first ad yesterday on AdWords. Ran it a few hours for two days just to see what happens.
Adwords reports: clicks impr.
365 36,581
CJ Manager shows all zeros. Is there a delay for data reporting on CJ with new accounts? (opened yesterday) Is this common? Does CJ only report sales? CJ reports show clicks and impr. columns on their tables, so I assumed they would have the same numbers as Google.
thanks for your help
I have an update: Today cj report showed 213 clicks. This is 72 hours after the campaign began. If there were any sales would they be reported by now? This delay makes it hard to determine if I should continue the campaign or not. As for now I’m still on pause.
thanks

First of all, loved your book! I am a displaced IT consultant too (project manager). Prior to buying it, I started down the path of creating my own site, but quickly discovered affiliate search marketing is easier and cheaper. I signed up for several affiliate networks – CJ, Clickbank, RevenueWire. So I was at about step 5 prior to buying it.
My dilemma now is which product(s) to promote, and which networks best support the products that I choose. Based on my experience, I have narrowed it down to 3 areas:
1. Computer Software (optimization, antispyware, etc.). I know that the margins here must be razor thin due to the competition. I have connected with a SW publisher that has give me good support and tips on how to market, and their conversion rates, etc.
2. Sporting Goods. I think i could promote niches, like Camping. Their may be opportunites for seasonal campaigns too.
3. Real Estate Investing – Short sales, investor tools, etc.
4. Credit cards
Any help you can give based on the products that i have mentioned and Networks that support them best would be greatly appreciated. It seems like amazon would lend itself nicely to sporting goods.
Also, do you ever recommend running the same campaign, and then swapping out the products if it is underperforming. In theory you could do it if you had broad keywords, and then just replaced one products’ hoplink with another.
Thanks!
Jim

Hi Everyone, Sorry for the delay in publishing this newsletter. My move has proved far more challenging than I first anticipated.
I’ll keep this letter short. A LOT of you have been writing and complaining about how increasingly difficult it is to find programs that still allow direct search marketing without a website, and although there are still some that do allow this (most notably Amazon.com), I too have been having difficulty finding new programs. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that it may soon be next to impossible to make money in search marketing without a website, and I am sadly advising even those who have met with some early success to start strongly considering developing and testing landing pages, in order to continue to compete in the future.

But this is what the affiliate millions website is for… to address changes after the book was published. Realizing – as I do – that many of you are most attracted to this business model because of low startup costs, I have done my best to identify affordable solutions to the added burden of developing a website. Free website templates and simple instructions are still available on my website; www.affiliatemillions.com/web-design.html , along with affordable web design companies capable of developing sites tailored to whatever affiliate programs you wish to promote.
I also have found what I believe is the absolute best deal on affordable and service-rich web hosting. Blue Host’s hosting plan includes: – 1 Free Domain – Free Setup – 300 Gigs of Storage Space – 3,000 Gigs of Transfer – 2500 E-Mail Accounts – SSH, Perl, MySQL, FrontPage Extension Support, Fantastico, WYSIWYG Site Builder, Free Marketing Services and more. - Unlimited domains can be hosted for no extra charge on 1 account
I will continue to search for solutions to the new challenges that are the one constant in this industry. Good Luck, Affiliate Millionaires in training!

Hi Tony,
Thanks for hosting such a useful discussion board on affiliate marketing. I have a couple of questions for you:
1. I’ve been looking through the available programs on CJ and many of them prohibit the use of the company’s URL as the display URL. So, if I don’t have my own website and am simply doing paid search listings, what can I use as the display URL?
2. Do programs generally accept new publishers who are individuals and do not have a history on CJ? When I look at the top rated programs I wonder if they’ll even accept me at this point. How do you suggest someone who is a new affiliate marketer get started with building a commission history on CJ?
Thanks much in advance!
